"A Lover in the Land of Hell" Spiritual Self-Help Poetry Book
It was Saturday, August 23rd, 2014. I was sitting in my apartment thinking to myself that I should be doing something creative yet I couldn't quite figure out what I should be doing. I was on day 18 of a raw vegan diet. I had become a Reiki Master 5 months earlier. Energy was high! All of a sudden I receive a text message from my good friend (partner and spiritual mentor) Xavior. I ask him what I should be doing. He tells me to write a poem about the unfortunate state of our planet. Almost immediately I started writing “Warrior Spirit.” “Warrior Spirit" expresses all that is wrong with this world,... all the evils that exist from animal abuse to homelessness, corrupt politics, etc. “I’m just a Warrior Spirit trying to stay peaceful amidst a chaotic planet engulfed in evil people, I’m here to help the meek finally inherit the earth, invoke great change in this world, be the voice of rebirth,” echoes consistently throughout the poem.
But something interesting, perhaps miraculous occurred after writing “Warrior Spirit.” All of a sudden another poem seemed to pop into my mind... and than another and another. In fact, they just wouldn't stop. Little did I know at the time that the poems would continuously flow out of me for approximately the next 6 weeks thus creating my first poetry book ever titled A Lover in the Land of Hell: A Collection of Spiritually Enlightening Poetry for Personal and Planetary Transformation and Growth. It seems I had opened some type of poetic flood gate. It didn't even feel like I was writing most of the poems. It was as if the universe was whispering the words into my consciousness....as if the words had always existed and at last I finally found them! I was in a heightened state....a meditative state. I believe the poems were being channeled. There were a handful of poems that I felt I wrote myself, but the majority seemed to arrive from some distant place beyond this world.
Various topics raced through my mind on a daily basis... Conscious topics...Love, God, health, compassion for animals, healing the planet... I constantly had to stop what I was doing so I could catch the words and write them all down. It was a real juggling act. I didn't want to miss anything! I recall ...I was driving and writing (as carefully as I could) “My Container”- a poem about women being judged by their appearances in our superficial society. I was jogging by the LA river when “Spirit Man” came to me- a poem about a homeless man, pointing out the homeless epidemic in our society. “Generosity”- a poem about giving more, came to me after helping a lady pay for her water at the water store. She was about $1 short, and quite surprised when I gave her the $1. I felt a burst of positive energy and when I went to sit in my car “Generosity” just started flowing... “More people should give just to give, Generosity is a beautiful gift, The world would be a better place to live if more people would give just to give.”
I started to realize that a book was forming,.. one of most importance! A book that could change the way people think! A book that could change the world! So I allowed the poems to continue funneling into my consciousness. I finally wrote my last poem, or so I thought.... “A Tribute to the Universe.” I was done. I had thanked the universe for all my blessings and the book was finished...that is until my friend Xavior asked me to write one more poem about death for his friend who had just lost his mother. I told Xavior that I was done. My brain was no longer accepting anymore poems...or so I thought! I stepped into the shower and was surprised as “The Illusion of Death” started flowing to me. I guess I wasn't done! The universe obviously felt that this one last poem was necessary to complete the book. And I agree, “The Illusion of Death” is quite important as it helps alleviate any fears we may have of passing on....the fear of the unknown! So I am grateful that my consciousness accepted this one last poem to complete the work.
We are living in troubling times. There is so much conflict and turmoil on this planet it can become overwhelming. We are all affected by the negativity whether we realize it or not. The Universe, God, Divine spirit...whatever name you want to call the higher power,... it wants us to do better. It wants us to resonate with the love vibration that is inherent within all of us. Even in hell we can find beauty, feel love, be love and make a difference. We all have the power within us to create positive change...for ourselves and for the planet as a whole. It's important for each of us as individuals to take the opportunity to heal ourselves mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. When we heal ourselves we heal the world.
I believe A Lover in the Land of Hell can be likened to an entertaining, yet deep thought provoking, new age instruction manual for positive self transformation and thus world transformation. The reader is taken on a journey exemplifying the bitter realities of our present day planet earth and steps we can all take to help create positive change. A Lover in the Land of Hell is quite unique in that it is not a typical poetry book, but rather a self-help book in poetic form. Hypnotic, rhythmic, therapeutic verses gently guide the reader, consciously and subconsciously, towards creating positive changes in all aspects of their life. A better understanding of oneself and the world we live in is achieved. A Lover in the Land of Hell is the evolution of self-help books! It is my sincerest desire that A Lover in the Land of Hell helps create positive change for as many readers as possible and contributes to a brighter future for us all.
